We've covered the basics of testing with prototyping tools in WhatUsersDo, but sometimes you may need to ask users to add your prototype to the home screen of their smartphone to ensure your prototype functions as it should.
Here's a quick walkthrough of how to do it!
1. Add the "share" link to your prototype
Once you've generated the link to share your prototype, simply add this as a Link to Visit from the User Instructions menu.
2. Ask users to add this to their home screen
Next, add a Task instruction that asks the user to add the prototype to the home screen of their smartphone. Here's some recommended wording:
"Open the "Share" menu in your browser (the icon of a rectangle with an upwards-pointing arrow) and select the "Add to Home Screen" option from the bottom of the menu (this will add the link as an icon on your Home Screen—you can remove it after the test)."
"Open your browser menu and select the "Add to homescreen" option from the bottom of the menu (this will add the link as an icon on your Home Screen—you can remove it after the test)."
3. Ask users to launch from their home screen
Finally, add another task that asks users to launch your prototype from the home screen. Here's some suggested wording:
"Go to your Home Screen and open the [name of prototype] app"
Don't forget to replace the text in square brackets with the name of your prototype!
